Mr Lonsdale blasted companies like My Dog, owned by Mars, for advertising food as healthy and nutritionally dense when really their products were ‘dangerous’ (Kitty’s teeth pictured)

Don’t blame the owners. Junk pet food/vet corruption at the root of mass animal cruelty and consumer fraud.

Grim warning to pet owners about popular dog food brands after horrific photos of canine tooth decay emerge

  • Gruesome photos inside a pomeranian’s mouth showed disgusting rotten teeth
  • Veterinarian Tom Lonsdale said it was the horrific effect of processed dog food
  • He said companies like My Dog were dangerous for labeling products ‘healthy’

Popular Australian pet food brands claiming to be jam packed with nutritional value have come under fire after an expert claimed they caused chronic disease in dogs. Gruesome photos inside a 12-year-old pomeranian’s mouth showed what veterinarian Tom Lonsdale said was the horrific effect of processed dog food. The vet surgeon blasted companies like My Dog, owned by Mars, for advertising food as healthy and nutritionally dense when really their products were ‘dangerous’. A photo of what the elderly dog ‘Kitty’s’ mouth looked like before having her rotten teeth extracted was shared to the Australian Pet Owners Group Facebook page.

All teeth were severely decayed and discoloured – something Mr Lonsdale blamed on My Dog products like the ‘free range chicken, rice and vegetables’. The poor pooch was then pictured with all teeth removed, which Mr Lonsdale believed could have been avoided had she of been fed raw meat and vegetables.

‘Pet owners need to know that the commercial products slowly and sometimes rapidly harm pets forced to consume those products,’ he wrote in a submission to the senate inquiry into the safety of pet food. ‘The manufacturers need to be held accountable for both the long term chronic diseases arising from their products and the sporadic outbreaks of acute disease.’

Mr Lonsdale said all processed pet foods injured the health of animals, and occasionally caused additional harm like ‘bacterial contamination and formulation deficiencies’. ‘I believe that Australian Governments, both federal and state, should be and probably are legally liable for the sale and promotion of known harmful products under the guise that those products are suitable, safe and enjoy official/Government endorsement,’ he wrote.

‘The 150 years junk pet-food experiment has imposed relentless cruelty on pet carnivores, defrauded consumers and placed undue burdens on the wider society and natural environment.  ‘I believe that the experiment constitutes white collar crime on a global scale.’
